Retail/Admin/Business Diploma - Level 1 at Dudley College
The Pearson BTEC Level 1 Introductory Diploma in Business is primarily for
post-16 learners who want to continue their education and develop their skills for progression to
further learning and, ultimately, to employment.
In this Level 1 course you will be able to learn both business, retail and administration skills. This will include how to welcome visitors, handle mail (incoming and outgoing), handle diary systems (paper-based and computerised) create business documents, visual merchandising etc.... You may already have some experience of a business environment in a real working business/administration office which would be beneficial. The course will enable you to develop a broad range of IT skills through carrying out business and administration tasks.
You must attend an interview and hold GCSE grades at F-G. If you have practical work experience but no formal qualifications you will be considered following an interview with the course tutor.
A variety of methods are used to assess learning throughout the course and they are as follows:
• Externally examined units
• Formal business reports
• Formal business presentations
• Professional skill role-play activities
• In-class assessments – formal and informal.
There is no need to worry about the costs of coming to college as there is lots of financial help available. Our finance and welfare officers will be able to talk to you about any help that may be available to you based on your individual circumstances.

Students aged 16-18 attending a full-time further education course can apply to the 16-18 Bursary Fund for help with college related costs. Free BUS PASS
We will provide a free bus pass to help with travel costs for 16-18* year olds on full-time programmes, based on individual circumstances**. To qualify for a free bus pass***, you must live more than one mile from the campus at which you will be studying and not already be in receipt of other financial support, such as Care to Learn funding.
*Under 19 as at 31 August 2017.
**Students with learning difficulties or disabilities who are unable to access public transport may still be able to receive help – talk to our Student Finance team.
***Evidence of family income will need to be provided.

At the end of this course, you could progress to an Administration Level 2, an Apprenticeship in Administration, Business Level 2 or another course at Level 2 such as Retail or IT.
