Product Design at Chellaston Academy

Course description

AS - ‘Materials, components and application’ -
you’ll look at materials, production processes
and the impact of cost and design.
- ‘Learning through designing and making’
you’ll produce some coursework using your
own designs with a range of materials and
media.
A2 - ‘Design and manufacture’ - helping you
to appreciate the relationship between design
and technology, or form and function.
- ‘Design and making in practice’ is the
practical coursework. You’ll design and make
an object and record the processes that you
went through in a folder of work.
The final project can relate to your interests
or solve a genuine problem
Your design folio will help you promote
yourself at interviews both for university and
industry.

Entry requirements

AS/A2 levels (2 years)
5 or more Grades at B or above, all of which
must come from separate courses.
In line with other institutions, we also expect
higher grade passes in Maths and English, in
order to access Level 3 courses.
To take Maths AS/A2, you must have at least
an A grade in order to take up the course
In the larger, on-line prospectus there are
entry requirements for each subject. In general,

at least a B grade is required to take
a subject at AS/A2 level
