Course content

The A level course in Art and Design has always proved to be both exciting and rewarding. The structure of the syllabus is very similar to the GCSE course and allows for natural progression. The students will continue with the same freedom of materials and techniques, while extending their exploration and creativity through more in – depth projects. Visits to local Art Galleriesand venues further afield will provide essential engagement with the work of artists, craftspeople and designers. Students will use knowledge and understanding of the work of others to develop and extend thinking to help with their own ideas. There is opportunity to analyse and write in some depth within the coursework units. It will be expected that there is a passion for, and a commitment to the subject and that students will be able to be engaged in self directed learning outside lesson times.

Entry requirements

Our entry requirement is that you need to have a record of proven commitment to study, a good attendance record and be willing to complete the courses.  We shall also take into account your GCSE results.

Assessment

It is an essential requirement that all students have a passion for the subject and candemonstrate a commitment to work both within the classroom environment and beyondthe constraints of the time-table.

Future opportunities

It provides a direct pathway for those students who wish to extend their art experience past18 through the Art Foundation Course and then onto the many specialist degree courses. Careers and job opportunities within this creative field are always expanding.
