Product Design A Level at Stanground Academy
This creative and thought-provoking qualification gives you the practical skills, theoretical knowledge and confidence to succeed in a number of careers, especially those in the creative industries.
You will investigate historical, social, cultural, environmental and economic influences on design and technology, whilst enjoying opportunities to put your learning into practice by producing products of your choice. You will gain a real understanding of what it means to be a designer, alongside the knowledge and skills sought by higher education and employers.
The exams and non –exam assessment will measure how students have achieved the following assessment objectives:
A01: Identify, investigate and outline design possibilities to address needs and wants
A02: Design and make prototypes that are fit for purpose
A03: Analyse and evaluate: design decisions and outcomes, including the prototypes made by themselves and other wider issues in design and technology
A04: Demonstrate and apply knowledge and understanding of: technical principles, designing and making principles.
5 + A* to B grades at GCSE including grade 5 or above in English, mathematics and grade C or above in an art or design based subject.
50% exam (maths and science contribute 15%) at the end of year 2
50% non-exam assessment (NEA)
This qualification will enable you to go onto university or take up an apprenticeship in any of the following pathways: engineering, manufacturing, product design, interior design, industrial design, graphic design, architecture plus other areas within the design industry.
This subject goes well with mathematics, science, art, fashion and textiles.h as physics, mathematics, history, biology and PE.
