Mathematics A Level at Walker Technology College
Mathematics at this level consists of the study of Pure Mathematics and the study of the application of mathematics to the real world:
The course develops understanding and resourcefulness in the use of mathematics.
What units will I study?
These are compulsory units and contain content that will be followed by all exam boards.
Most of the content is concerned with Algebra and its application to questions across all areas of maths.

Pure Core 4
Decision Maths 1 (AS) This is an optional unit that looks at the mathematics involved with making decisions and following algorithms. It is particularly useful if linked to ICT based courses, as this is the type of maths used in Computer Programming.
Statistics 1 (A2) This is another optional unit, it continues from the statistics you study at GCSE. You will look at averages and spread of large data sets. You will investigate data by looking at relationships between variables and the probability and chance of events happening.
What does the course involve?
Through studying Maths you will acquire a range of important and transferable skills including:
- Data skills - students will be expected to use and manipulate data in a variety of forms and to interpret their results.
