Further Mathematics A'Level at Newstead Wood School

Course description

Further Mathematics is an excellent choice for anyone going on to study Mathematics, Engineering, Computing or any Maths related degree at university. The new courses have some elements of choice. We intend (provisionally) to study the MEI course again as it is the only one that allows us to study all three of the major branches of Applied maths in equal depth; namely Mechanics, Statistics and Decision Maths (aka Operational Research).

Unlike some institutions we believe that the subject should be taught in its own right and not tagged onto the end of maths A2, so we start teaching in at the beginning of Y12 and devote exactly the same amount of time to it as to any other subject so that the students can get a deep grasp of the concepts. Please read the mathematics section above that your son or daughter will also be studying as many of the general principles apply to both courses, and the website gives proposed details of Further Maths as well. The exams are similarly all at the end of Y13.
