AS/A2 Levels: Drama and Theatre Studies at Hind Leys College (Iveshead School)

Course description

The Drama and Theatre course combines practical dramatic work with theoretical explorations of texts and theatre practitioners. 

Course content

There are three components in the full A Level course. Component One involves a devised group performance, for which students may be a performer or technical contributor. In Component Two, students again have the choice of performing or technically assisting in a lengthy play extract, as well as a monologue or duologue. Finally, Component Three is an exam which involves the study of a set text and chosen practitioner and a response to a live theatre performance. There will be theatre trips during the course and students are also encouraged to independently see as much live theatre as possible.

Entry requirements

5 A*-C grades at GCSE

Assessment

For a full A Level qualification, students will be assessed on one written examination(40%) and 2 coursework units covering devising (40%) and performance (20%).

Future opportunities

You could take this course with other advanced level courses such as Music to prepare for higher education in the Performing Arts or more general higher education courses.

With further training you could go into a job related to the Performing Arts such as Dance or Drama Teacher, Choreographer, Theatre Director, or you may wish to perform on the stage.

The course also helps you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for, especially within the Performing Arts sectors.

    • Hind Leys College shares campus with Shepshed High School, St Botolphs C of E Primary School, Hind Leys Pre-School, The Oak Treehouse Nursery and Shepshed Toy Library.

      Shepshed Campus is only a short distance off Leicester Road from the A512, off Junction 23 of the M1.  The nearest train station is Loughborough.

      Bus links include Arriva bus nos. 126 and 127,  Paul Winson nos. 4 and 129, connecting Shepshed to Leicester, Loughborough, Coalville and Ashby de la Zouch.  

      Students attending Hind Leys College from the catchment areas and neighbouring villages are bussed to college through the Leicestershire County Council school transport provision.
