A Level Physics at Chiltern Hills Academy

Course description

Year 1 AS Level

The AS course flows very well from the GCSE material but with some more in-depth theory. Classical physics, including wave theory, mechanics and electrical circuits makes up the bulk of the course. However, there is also coverage of cutting edge particle theories and quantum theories that are being studied at leading institutes around the world.

The course is split up into two theory examinations and one practical examination.

Year 2 A2 Level

The first unit of the A2 course extends on the foundation laid in the AS course on mechanics and introduces the basics of field theories.

The A2 course also includes a unit covering nuclear physics and thermal physics and an optional unit. Most students choose astrophysics.

The A2 course is also split into two theory examinations and one practical examination.

Entry requirements

A grade B GCSE in Science is the minimum requirement plus a grade B in Mathematics
