MUSIC at The Weald School

Course description

No matter what sort of music you enjoy playing or singing and what you like listening to, music at AS and A2 levels providesan opportunity for committed musicians to develop musical skills, knowledge and understanding through performing, composing and analysis.

At AS level, students record a 5-6 minute performance of music of their choice, composed in a style they are comfortablewith and prepare for a two hour exam with questions on a selection of musical extracts and a short harmony exercise.

At A2 level, a 12-15 minute performance is recorded and two compositions or technical exercises are completed in any combination. Students also prepare for a two hour examwith questions on a selection of extracts (some familiar and some not).

Entry requirements

A passion for music.

Grade 5 standard or above on any instrument or voice.

Good working knowledge of music theory (grade 5 standard).

GCSE music is a great advantage but is not essential in all cases.
