Using Employability Skills Certificate at Entry 2 at Rotherham College

Course description

Being prepared for the world of work, developing your independence skills, enhancing your social skills and fostering a valuable role within the community can all be big steps to take. Futures at Rotherham College will guide and support you to achieving these goals and more.

You’ll have the opportunity to learn in small groups within our specialist facilities at both our Town Centre and Dinnington Campus. While studying with us you’ll gain hands-on experience from being involved in a variety of enterprise activities. Rotherham College will work with you to ensure your English, maths and ICT skills are the best they can be.

Through our Next Steps Passport you will widen your skills and have the chance to take part in extra activities to prepare you for the world of work. We will make sure that you are on the right course for your ability and aspirations and we will make sure that you have the support that you need to succeed.

Course content

This course is designed for students who want to develop their employability skills.

What will I study?

•You will get hands-on experience and build your employability skills by taking part in our social enterprises. There are opportunities for you to get involved in the running of a lunch club, work on a farm in Sheffield and volunteer in a range of places, including parks in Rotherham

•Students do a range of work experience outside College including Adpro, Gardening, McDonalds, the Co-op and Myplace. We work with other agencies to develop opportunities for you

•While studying with us, we will work with you to ensure that your maths, English and ICT skills are the best that they can be

•Through the Next Steps Passport you will widen your skills and have the chance to take part in extra activities to prepare you for the world of work

•You will have the opportunity to try a range of vocational areas to help you to make a realistic choice in the future

•You can mix with a lot of people the same age as you

•You can access all the College facilities including the lively refectories, the Library and sporting activities

•Support is available to make sure that everyone succeeds

Entry requirements

You must be able to work in a small group with support.


• You will be given feedback by your tutor

• You will provide lots of evidence of your learning and achievement with photographs and films
