Mathematics at Little Heath School
Mathematics is important! The main reason for studying A Level Mathematics is that it is a rewarding and exciting course. Mathematics is a universal part of human culture, being the tool and language of commerce, engineering and other sciences. For those who love its clarity and challenge, Mathematics is considered to be elegant and beautiful.
Within the A Level Mathematics course, you will study Pure Mathematics and you will also need to pick which Applied Mathematics module to study – either Statistics (very helpful if you are studying biology, psychology or geography) or Mechanics which links well with physics.
You will need a good set of Grade A*-C GCSE passes in a range of subjects to study the A Level Mathematics course. In terms of your mathematical qualification, you will need to have studied Higher Tier and have gained at least a Grade B in GCSE Mathematics.
The department also offers an AS Mathematics course that is delivered over two years following the same modules as are identified below. This course supports subjects such as Biology, Psychology, Geography and other subjects that may have some mathematical content. You will also study the Use of Algebra Course.
