French GCSE at Shenley Brook End School
Edexcel In years 10 and 11 you will be developing your skills of listening, reading, writing and speaking, while building on themes and language you have met in KS3. The emphasis in all four areas is on authenticity and allowing students to engage in activities which correspond to their interested. You will learn to communicate on various topics including cafes and restaurants, leisure activities, family and friends, schools and accommodation. To help you in your learning you will need a French dictionary and a means of recording spoken assignments also have the opportunity to practise your speaking skills with our French assistant. French and the GCSE All candidates studying French will be following a course which leads to the GCSE examination. This exam combines controlled assessment of speaking and writing skills with Foundation or Higher tier external assessments for the listening and reading skills. You could take this course to prepare for advanced level courses such as an A/AS Level in French or you may need to strengthen your grades by completing a foundation or intermediate vocational qualification. With further training, you could go into a job related to languages such as a teacher, translator, or you may wish to use your French qualification to study or work in France. You could also go straight into employment and do further training or part time study with the support of your employer.
