Art and Design BTEC First Diploma Level 2 at Lowestoft College

Course description

This course will introduce you to a broad range of art and design subjects and you will be able to develop a range of techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for performance in further study or your working life.

Course content

Through practical activities you will be learning about general art and design practices and gaining skills in specialist areas of study such as:

  • Photography 
  • Print making 
  • Digital arts 
  • Ceramics

Drawing is a key element of the course, whatever your ability we will look to develop your skills in this area.

Entry requirements

Four subjects at GCSE grade C or above (including English). You will need a portfolio of your artwork and will attend an interview. Applications from students with no academic qualifications will be considered on the strength of their portfolio.


You are assessed on theoretical and practical coursework. There will be two specialist units which are externally examined. Practical sessions will be delivered to teach you specific techniques and processes that you will then apply to your own practice. You will be supported by individual tutorials where your progress can be discussed and help given. 

Future opportunities

Upon completion of this course, you may wish to progress on to the Level 3 90-Credit Diploma. You may then progress to the Extended Diploma which can lead to a Foundation Degree or Honours Degree.
