Physical Education A Level *FEES PAYABLE* at Northampton High School

Course description

Sport is an area of high importance both nationally and internationally, and this course offers an insight into the reasons behind this. The subject looks at the importance of a balanced active healthy lifestyle and the factors that affect this, such as psychology, anatomy and physiology and social factors such as funding, provision and comparisons to other countries. There is the opportunity to develop a strong basis in performance and coaching in your chosen sports and link your theory to practice to help improve both yours and others performance.

Course content

AS Level
Unit 1 An introduction to PE Candidates acquire an appreciation of topic areas including anatomy and physiology, acquiring movement skills and socio-cultural studies relating to participation in physical activity.

Unit 2 Acquiring, developing and evaluating practical skills in PE Candidates will experience activities from across the different activity groups and work towards responding to a live performance in their assessed activities.

A2 Level
Unit 3 Principles and concepts across different areas of PE Candidates study the theoretical components relating to comparative studies (especially sporting provision in Australia, USA and UK), anatomy and physiology and sports psychology

Unit 4 Improvement of effective performance and the critical evaluation of practical activities in PE. The improvement of effective performance and the critical evaluation, appreciation and improvement of practical activities in PE.

Entry requirements

For those interested in this course it is important to note that, although very beneficial, it is not essential to have already completed the GCSE Physical Education. If you do not have GCSE PE it is desirable to have a strong base in Biology.
