Course description

Why study English Language?

English Language helps to develop excellent communication skills. It is aimed at students who enjoy a more scientific study of English, analysing how speech and writing are put together, how they have developed and how they influence audiences. It is probably most useful for careers in journalism or the wider media, and a good companion for History or Sociology. It is a well-respected qualification, welcomed by universities.

What does the course involve?

Unit 1 - Exploring Language: Externally assessed written paper

Unit 2a - Exploring Contexts: Externally assessed written paper (AS only)

Unit 2b - Dimensions of Linguistic Variation: Externally assessed written paper (A Level only)

Unit 3 - Independent Language Research: Internally assessed coursework (A Level only)

Progression & Career Opportunities:

English is a course that will enable you to get onto a wide range of University courses. A wide variety of occupations will be open to you, including publishing, journalism, media, law and teaching. In addition the skills you will acquire are highly valued by employers.
