Applied Science (Medical Science) BTEC Level 3 at Newlands Girls' School

Course description

This is a vocational course designed to give you an insight into the work that scientists do in research and development. Careers that this may lead onto include: Laboratory Technician, Nursing, Veterinary Nurse, Scientific Officer etc. There are many local companies and Universities which value the transferrable skills developed during this course. This course is equivalent to one A-Level and can lead to many degree courses.

Course content

You will learn in a variety of ways including practical investigations, independent research projects, discussion and observation of specimens. You are not required to do any dissection but will have the opportunity to do some. We will visit a modern laboratory at a University and we will also have an Industrial visit. This is an extremely exciting course and we will study topics such as human body systems and physiology, biochemical techniques, and treatment of disease.

Entry requirements

You should have at least a grade C in Core or Additional Science, however all applications will  be considered on an individual basis.

Assessment

There are no examinations and assessment is 100% coursework.
