Sport:Level 3 Extended Diploma at Suffolk New College

Course description

The study programme offers an extensive study of all sporting areas, including Coaching, Nutrition, Leadership, Fitness Testing and Training, Assessing Risks, and Anatomy and Physiology. You will have the opportunity to learn in the classroom and through practical sessions utilising the College’s fantastic facilities. Educational trips are arranged each year to wider the student experience through attendance at sports conventions and alternative sporting venues.

All students who have not achieved a grade C or grade 4, or above in GCSE Maths or both will need to study a Maths qualification alongside their chosen main qualification and the opportunity to gain valuable work experience.

Course content

You are required to complete 11 mandatory units that include; Sports Leadership. Coaching and Leading for Participation, Sports Psychology and Physical Education and the Care of Young People. In addition, you will have 3 externally assessed units; Anatomy and Physiology, Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being, and Development and Provision of Sport and Physical Activity. You should expect to be in College for at least three days a week. You will also take part in relevant work experience in a sport setting and have the opportunity to take part in Sport in the Community. The study programme is assessed using a variety of methods including assignments, practical performance, observations, presentations and discussions, with one externally exam and two externally set tasks.

Entry requirements

At least 4 GCSEs at grade C or grade 4 or above, including English Language or successful achievement of a merit in the Cambridge Technical Level 2 in Sport or Pearson BTEC level 2 in Health, Fitness & Exercise at merit level with level 1 Functional Skills in Maths and GCSE in English as part of

Tuition Costs 

No tuition fees are payable for students aged 16 – 18 on 31 August 2017. For all students aged 19+ please visit our website www.suffolk.ac.uk. Details regarding fee remission and Advanced Learning Loans can also be found at the above website.

Additional Costs

Students benefit from trips that support educational attainment in year and these cost £50, which is payable at enrolment. You will also be required to buy one item of sports clothing on line. The website details will be provided at open events.

Future opportunities

Students who complete this course may progress on to Higher Education or into the workforce since this is equivalent to 3 A Levels.
