Spanish A2 at Warlingham School

Course description

During this course you will read and listen to authentic foreign language materials and will study aspects of the contempory society, cultural background and heritage of a country where the language is spoken. You will have the opportunities to develop your understanding and awareness of spiritual, moral, ethical, environmental, health and European issues. You will exten and develop your knowledge of the grammar and vocabulary of the foreign language and will use this to speak, write, read and listen to the language. In addition, you will learn how to: - be an effective communicator - speak and write the language in a range of different situations and for different purposes - use the language to express facts and ideas - use the language to present explanations, opinions and information. Students will explore the same General Topics Areas as AS, plus the following: Customs, traditions, beliefs and religions. National and international events; past, present and future. Literature and the arts. Assessment Format Unit 3: Oral discussion of issues 11-13 minutes 17.5% Unit 4: Research, understanding and written response in the foreign language. 2½ hours 32.5%

Entry requirements

GCSE Grade B or above in Spanish

Future opportunities

You could take this course with other advanced level course or equivalent to prepare for higher education in Spanish, Languages or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job requiring a knowledge of Spanish or Languages such as a Teacher, Translator, or you may wish to use your Spanish to study or work over in Spain. The course will also help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for, especially in the travel and tourism sector. You could take this course with other advanced level course or equivalent to prepare for higher education in Spanish, Languages or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job requiring a knowledge of Spanish or Languages such as a Teacher, Translator, or you may wish to use your Spanish to study or work over in Spain. Possible Careers and Higher Education Degrees in Spanish, European Studies, Business Studies with Spanish, Sciences with Spanish, Law with German. Careers in translating, travel industry, interpreting, au pair work, bi-lingual secretarial work.
