BTEC Business at Connell Sixth Form College

Course description

Do you enjoy watching The Apprentice? How about The Dragons’ Den? Do you
think you could be the next Richard Branson?

Business Studies can equip you with the knowledge and skills that you need to run a successful business.

Course content

You study many of the aspects of running a business successfully, therefore this course is very beneficial for students wishing to pursue a career in business. There are 13 units throughout the course, of which 7 are mandatory. These units are:

·         Exploring Business

·         Developing a Marketing Campaign

·         Personal and Business Finance

·         Managing an Event

·         International Business

·         Principles of Management

·         Business Decision Making

You will also complete optional units with an emphasis of the sports industry.

Additional Activities:

There are trips to a number of businesses in Greater Manchester.

Entry requirements

To study this programme you will need to achieve 5 GCSEs grade 4 or above, including English and Maths.

Specification: BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Business

Length: This is a linear course and will take two years to complete.

 

Assessment

Four units are externally assesses with the remainder assessed internally via coursework.

The externally assessed units in the first year are:

Unit 2: Developing a Marketing Campaign

Unit 3: Personal and Business Finance

The externally assessed units in the second year are:

Unit 6: Principles of Management

Unit 7: Business Decision Making

Future opportunities

The course will equip you well to start a career in business where employers value both your actual learning and the degree of independent learning and problem solving ability you will have gained during the course. There are also a wide variety of business courses at university for which this course is a perfect foundation.
