IT OCR Cambridge Technical Introductory Diploma at Aylesford School

Course description

Students will develop knowledge, understanding and skills of the principles of IT and Global Information Systems by looking at IT infrastructure, the flow of information on a global scale, the importance of legal and security considerations. The course has been designed in collaboration with experts spanning the breadth of the sector, the Level 3 Cambridge Technicals in IT focus on the requirements that today’s universities and employers demand.

Students will also develop professional, personal and social skills through interaction with peers, stakeholders and clients, as well as theoretical knowledge and understanding to underpin these skills. These support the transferable skills required by universities and employers such as communication, problem solving, time management, research and analytical skills.’

Course content

Mandatory units:

Unit 1 – Fundamentals of IT looks at the different types of computer device, how they work, the components and how they communicate.

Unit 2 – Global Information looks at how informaƟon is used in the public domain – by organisations, families, groups and individuals. It looks at internal and external data.

A 3rd Mandatory Internally assessed unit which will be chosen once a final pathway has been selected

This qualification includes a choice of optional units, including:

Unit 8 – project management

Unit 9 – product development

Unit 21 – web design and prototyping
