Business Studies A-Level at Sir John Talbot's Technology College
Business studies will help you to have an understanding of the range of different businesses that can exist in an economy and the functional areas within them. You will develop an understanding of the different ways in which businesses are organised to achieve their purposes and they will also be able to appreciate that businesses can have a variety of different aims. You will see how the wider environment can impact on businesses in terms of both the economic environment and the political, legal and social framework in which businesses operate. There are clear links with design and ICT.
Will this course suit me?
Business is one of the most popular subject areas studied at advanced levels as businesses are the heart of the economy. They develop innovation, create wealth within communities and lead the way in enhancing the skills of the UK workforce. The course is an ideal foundation for students entering the higher education to study economics, business or any design courses. It also prepares students for the workplace, providing them with a theoretical background reinforced with practical skills that transfer into the modern workplace. Ideally you will have at least a grade B at GCSE in the subject you wish to study.
We ask that students applying to the Sixth Form have a minimum of 5 GCSEs A*– C Grade and aim for a B Grade in their chosen subject of study (predicted grades).
It is possible to choose some subjects if you have not studied them for GCSE.
You will be invited to attend a short, informal interview with the Head of Sixth Form to discuss your application and talk through your options. All places offered will be conditional until you have received your GCSE results in August and enrolment will take place on GCSE Results Day.
Business studies is regarded as a useful qualification to support your entrance onto any degree programme or higher education course. Courses that relate specifically to the skills acquired on the Business studies A Level would include Business Information Systems, Economics, Law, Accountancy and Finance.
