Art at Notre Dame High School

Course description

The course demands a mature, independent, adventurous approach to the subject. Drawing from life and investigation into art and artists are essential, and students are expected to develop a high level of technical and expressive skill.

Work is project based, with the students recording ideas and observations, analysing and evaluating their sources, developing ideas and finally presenting a personal and coherent response to the theme.

AS students complete a coursework unit (Unit 1) and a timed test (unit 2)

A2 students complete a coursework (Unit 3) which includes a written personal study and practical outcomes and a timed test (Unit4)

How it is assessed

There are 4 assessment criteria that are used for marking work. These are:
Developing ideas through sustained investigations informed by contextual and other sources.
Experimenting with and selecting appropriate media.
Recording observations and presenting an informed and meaningful response.

This course combines well with History, Graphics, English, Photography, Psychology, Sociology.
