Paper 1: Factors affecting participation in physical activity and sport (A level and AS level)

  • Section A: Applied physiology
  • Section B: Skill acquisition and sports psychology
  • Section C: Sport and society and technology in sport

Paper 2: Factors affecting optimal performance in physical activity  and sport (A level only)

  • Section A: Exercise physiology and biomechanics
  • Section B: Sport psychology
  • Section C: Sport and society and technology in sport 

Practical performance in physical activity and sport (A level and AS level)

  • Choice of sports to be assessed in, either as performer or coach: Amateur boxing, Association football, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Camogie, Canoeing, Cricket, Cycling, Dance, Diving, Equestrian, Gaelic football, Golf, Gymnastics, Handball, Hockey, Hurling, Kayaking, Lacrosse, Netball, Rock climbing, Rowing, Rugby league, Rugby union, Sculling, Skiing, Snowboarding, Squash, Swimming, Table tennis, Tennis, Trampolining, Volleyball 

Entry requirements

The minimum requirement to study at Knights Academy is at least 3 GCSEs A*-C plus English and Maths at grade 6

Assessment

Paper 1: Factors affecting participation in physical activity and sport

  • Written exam: 2 hours
  • 84 marks
  • 70% of AS (35% of A level)

Paper 2: Factors affecting optimal performance in physical activity and sport

  • Written exam: 2 hours
  • 105 marks
  • 35% of A-level

Non-exam assessment: Practical performance in physical activity and sport

  • Students assessed as a performer or coach in the full sided version of one activity.
  • Plus: written/verbal analysis of performance
  • Internal assessment, external moderation
  • 90 marks
  • 30% of A level or AS level
