Popular Music BTEC Foundation Diploma Level 1 at Fareham College

Course description

This is your first step into the music, performing and creative industries.

You’ll learn introductory skills and techniques to help you improve as a performer and as a successful student.

You’ll take part in performances, put on shows, create music and record it.

You’ll start to explore production techniques and real-world creative industry skills to help you progress to the next stage of being a successful musician.

Entry requirements

  • Three GCSEs and a two-minute audition demonstrating your practical/performance skills.

Future opportunities

Successful students can progress to our Level 2 Intermediate Diploma in Popular Music to help develop your skills further.

The skills you will learn on this foundation course will develop your communication skills and give you more confidence in this subject. it will also enable you to progress on to most Level 2 courses provided you have the required English and Maths qualifications.


Further information

Instrumentalists must provide their own instruments for practice and performance study in our purpose-built rehearsal rooms. Each studio is equipped with guitar amplifiers & PA equipment.
