Bricklaying (Construction) - CSkills Level 1 Diploma at East Durham College

Course description

The main focus of the level 1 programme is to develop practical tool skills and enhance basic underpinning knowledge of relevant industrial processes and techniques. These will be delivered in a workshop environment for practical sessions and classroom based for theory sessions. Also incorporated into the study programme will be functional skills (maths & English), tutorial, work experience, academic tutorial and relevant trips & guest visits.

Course content

Topics: 

The qualification consists of three core and five 'trade specific' units, including:

• Health and safety

• Technical information, quantities and communication

• Construction Technology

• Setting out basic masonry structures

• Mix construction materials

• Construct brick, block and cavity walling

 

Entry requirements

A general interest in construction, to be working at entry level 3 for both maths and English.

Assessment

The programme is assessed via online exams and practical test pieces for each unit.

Financial information

If you have been a UK resident for the past 3 years and are under the age of 19 on the 31st August, you will not usually need to pay any course fees.

Future opportunities

General site labourer or entry to an apprenticeship.

Further information

Successful completion of the level 1 programme will allow progression onto the Level 2 programme the following academic year.
