Drama and Theatre Studies A-Level at Freman College

Course description

The qualification is designed to enable students to acquire a knowledge and understanding of the language of drama and theatre as well as to develop their performing and analytical skills.

Course content

The course is divided into 3 units over the two years:

Unit 1 – Devising. Devise an original performance piece using an extract from a text as a stimulus. This is accompanied by a written evaluation of the devising process. (Internally assessed).

Unit 2 - Theatre in Performance. A group performance of an extract from a text and a performance of a monologue or duologue (Externally assessed).

Unit 3 – Theatre Makers in Practice. Written exam covering an evaluation of a live performance and two essays on two plays. Texts studied previously include Equus and Doctor Faustus. Questions will include a design concept for staging a text and how to re-imagine a pre-20th century play for a modern audience.

Entry requirements

Grade C or above in GCSE Drama.
