Engineering Advanced Apprenticeship at North Lindsey College

Course description

The course is delivered over 36 months and includes a Level 3 NVQ, assessed in the workplace, a Level 3 Technical Certificate, delivered at College on a day-release basis, and additional qualifications covering Maths, English, IT and learning and thinking skills together with employee rights and responsibilities.

Course content

You will study a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) in an appropriate engineering discipline at level 3. You will also study a Level 3 Technical Certificate which will be a Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma or Diploma. The Technical Certificate will give you the neccessary knowledge to be successful on the programme.
You will also study personal learning and thinking together with employee rights and responsibilities and will need to provide evidence of Maths, English and IT qualifications at level 2.

Entry requirements

You should have completed an engineering qualification at level 2 or have qualifications suitable for direct entry at level 3 (4 GCSEs at grades A - C including Maths, English and Science). You must be in employment or have a placement to complete this framework.


Your technical certificate will be assessed mostly by written assignments. Your NVQ will be assessed in the workplace by your assigned workbased assessor. You will build a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate your competence.

Future opportunities

When you complete your apprenticeship you can register with the Institute of Engineering and Technology as an engineering technician. You can then progress, through further study and professional experience, to become an incorporated or chartered engineer.
