ICT AS Level at Derby College

Course description

Understanding how ICT can be used in society and business - and the implications of its use - is a valuable asset in any walk of life.  A-level ICT will help learners who wish to go on to higher education courses or into employment in a wide range of sectors.

Course content

At AS Level:

  • INFO1 - Learners will undertake a range of practical software activities, designing, implementing and testing solutions.
  • INFO2 - Learners will begin to realise the importance that ICT plays in society, covering technology developments, use of ICT at home and use of ICT in a business.  They will also understand the wider picture of basic terms and concepts.

At A2 Level you will:

  • Cover technology developments, management of ICT and its use within large organisations
  • Produce an ICT-related coursework project.

Entry requirements

You need five GCSEs including English Language at grade B and Maths at grade C or above.  To progress to A2 Level, you need to achieve a minimum of a borderline D grade at AS Level.


In the AS year, assessment is 100% via examination but sample coursework is required for the INFO1 unit examination.  Both examinations will be in May.

In the A2 year, the assessment is 60% via examination and 40% via coursework.  The examination will be in June.

Future opportunities

You can progress to higher education or commence employment.
