Psychology A level at Paston Sixth Form College

Course description

Psychologists study behaviour - what people and other animals do: being kind or aggressive, breathing and walking, growing up, seeing and thinking. If you are fascinated by people and how they behave, then consider Psychology. You may never look at them in the same way again.

Course content

In the first year you will study:

  • Social Psychology
  • Cognitive Psychology
  • Biological Psychology
  • Learning theories

In your second year, you will build upon your work during the first year of the course and also study:

  • Clinical Psychology
  • Criminological Psychology
  • Psychological skills

Entry requirements

BBCCC at GCSE including English Language and a science. To study Psychology at university you will also need a grade B or higher in GCSE Mathematics.


The A- level is assessed by three written exam papers at the end of the course:

Paper 1 – Foundations in Psychology (2 hours)
Paper 2 – Applications of Psychology (2 hours)
Paper 3 – Psychological Skills (2 hours)
