Hairdressing - Barbering Level 3 at North Kent College
Students enrolling on this programme will spend a minimum of 3 sessions in our modern and well equipped hairdressing salon. You will be taught by vocational lecturers who have worked or are currently working in the hairdressing industry. They therefore have a wide and current experience of the industries needs and trends. Salon skills are supported by underpinning theory knowledge. .
The Diploma in Barbering has a number of mandatory units including Health and Safety, Consultation, Shampooing and Conditioning, Cutting hair using barbering techniques, Cutting facial hair to Shape and finishing. It also has a number of optional units for you to choose from. Your lecturer will guide you when making this choice.Your initial training is carried out on blocks and group members before progressing onto family, friends and paying clients. You need to be prepared to work a late evening mirroring the requirements of industry. Functional skills in English are taught alongside the vocational skills. This is an important aspect of your programme and will help to prepare you for the next level of qualification and working in the industry. You will be expected to behave in a highly professional manner at all times while in the salons and surrounding public areas. You will wear a uniform and will need to bring your hairdressing equipment to all salon sessions. It is recommended that you find part time work or voluntary work in the hairdressing industry to support your college training
Students progressing from Level 1 or 2 Hair, must have completed all aspects of that programme. A good attendance & behaviour record is required

24+ fees - TBA
Students over 19 pay for tuition, and registration fees with the awarding body.
Registration £60, Trips and Materials £60, Equipment approx £150
Students successfully completing could consider programmes in Ladies hairdressing, Beauty Therapy or look for opportunities in the workplace as a junior barber.
