Mathematical Studies level 3 (Core Mathematics) at Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School

Course description

Core Mathematics is a new Level 3 Mathematics qualification, half the size of an A-Level, with two end-of-course examinations. The content is based around the new GCSE Mathematics Higher Tier (first teaching 2015), with around 20% taken from other qualifications, for example A-Level Mathematics.

The qualification is designed for students who have achieved a grade 5 or above at GCSE and who are not taking Mathematics in the Sixth Form. It helps to develop students’ mathematical skills and thinking and supports courses such as A-level Psychology, Sciences and Geography, as well as technical and vocational qualifications.
This qualification is linear. Linear means that students will sit all the exams at the end of their two year course.

Course content

Compulsory content:

  • Analysis of data
  • Maths for personal finance
