Course description

Psychology is a fascinating science concerned with the study of the mind and behavior. It has links with a variety of disciplines such as the biological, computer and forensic sciences, as well as with the humanities such as sociology, philosophy and literature. The common factor linking people who study psychology is curiosity and the search for knowledge. Psychology has a broad range of real world applications in everyday life, ranging from stress, health, mental illness, artificial intelligence and human-machine interaction, to personal development, social interaction and the environment, to name but a few. Psychology offers good career prospects. There are a large number of careers in psychology, but the skills you learn will also readily transfer to many other careers. These skills include oral and written communication, computer literacy, numeracy, problem-solving and the ability to carry out independent research. What will I study? AS Unit 1: Introducing Psychology Unit 2: Social Psychology, Cognitive Psychology and Individual Differences A2 Unit 3: Child Development and Applied Options Unit 4: Approaches, Debates and Methods in Psychology

Entry requirements

for AS level – a minimum of 5 GCSE passes at grade C or above, usually with a Grade B or above in the subject to be taken at AS level or in an associated subject. for A2 level – candidates should normally have obtained a pass at AS level, preferably at grade C or above.

Future opportunities

With further training, you could go into a job related to Psychology and people such as a Counsellor, Nurse or Psychologist. You could take this course with other advanced level courses such as a science or one of the humanities to prepare for higher education in Psychology or more general higher education courses. You could also specialise in a particular area of Psychology such as education or mental health depending on the area that interests you.
