Design and Technology - Product Design AS level at The Thomas Aveling School

Course description

Product Design is an exciting, innovative course allowing you to display your creativity and flair. 

It will introduce you to a wide range of designers and design movements, allowing you to learn from others and create imaginative new products that meet a real need in the real world. 

It will enhance your analytical and problem solving skills which are vital for success in our rapidly changing society. 

Course content

Advanced Subsidiary (AS) units:

Unit 1 -       Examination: (Materials components & application) 50% of AS 25% of A2

Unit 2 -       Coursework: (Learning through designing & making) 50% of AS 25% of A2

Entry requirements

A minimum of 5 GCSE passes at grade A* - C, including Design Technology, preferably Product Design or Resistant Materials.

Future opportunities

Students who achieve this qualification will be prepared for progress to employment or higher education.  This could be in the area of graphics, product design, industrial design, project management, marketing or architecture.  Study in this area can help students develop transferable skills that can be taken into any career.
