Applied Science Extended Certificate Level 3 at The Belvedere Academy 6th Form

Course description

Certificate Level
  • Unit 1- Key Concepts in Science will cover Biology. Chemistry and Physics topics such as cell structure, transport mechanisms, the heart, respiration, atomic structure, the periodic table, bonding, electricity, circuits and dynamics
  • Unit 2 - Applied Experimental Techniques will allow pupils to carry out new practical techniques in Biology, Chemistry and Physics
  • Unit 3 - Science in the modern World will allow pupils to use information about topical scientific issues obtained from a variety of media sources. It will allow them to understand the public perception of science, the influence that the media has, the ethical, moral, commercial, environmental, political and social issues involved in scientific advances, and the responsibility of those working within the science community 
Extended Certificate Level
  • Unit 4 - The Human Body will cover topics such as digestion, the musculoskeletal system, oxygen transport, the nervous system and the brain
  • Unit 5 - Investigating Science allows pupils to plan, carry out, analyse and present the results of an investigation
  • Unit 6 - Microbiology/Medical Physics/Organic Chemistry

Entry requirements

A GCSE grade C in a Science subject, Maths and English
