Spanish A level at East Norfolk Sixth Form College

Course description

The course concentrates on the mastery of Spanish and it demands a high level of interest in a wide range of modern issues and current affairs. AS/A2 Spanish is suitable for those students who have enjoyed previous study of Spanish and who wish to extend that study, opening up excellent prospects for European careers.

You will have access to specialist computer applications, literature, magazines and a range of foreign language films that can be hired form our vast audio-visual library.

You will learn about Spain and gain valuable insights into the culture of the country whilst focussing particularly on contemporary social issues, such as; the media and popular culture, law and order and living in a multi-cultural society. Not only will you achieve an advanced level of Spanish, you will also develop a deeper understanding of society and global issues.

Course content

  • A variety of contemporary topics such as the Media and Healthy Lifestyles at AS and the Environment and Immigration at A-level.
  • Through the topics you will practise the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing.
  • Close study of Literature and Culture at A-level.

Entry requirements

Grade B or above in GCSE Spanish and at least a C grade in GCSE English Language.

Assessment

Awarding Body – AQA

A combination of oral, listening, reading and essay writing examination.

Future opportunities

Employers look for students who have studied languages as they often have excellent communication skills and an ability to create and maintain a coherent and cohesive argument.
