Children and Young People's Workforce (CACHE) Level 3 Extended Diploma (Marple Campus) at Cheadle & Marple Sixth Form College
The Extended Diploma is a full-time, vocational programme that relates generally to children between the ages of 0-16 years and specialises in children aged 0-5 years.
It covers both the theoretical and practical aspects of childcare and education. It is an excellent programme to study if you intend working with children and young people. You will learn about a variety of topics relating to children and young people such as learning and development, safeguarding, health and safety and communication. Work placement experience is an integral and assessed part of the programme.
• Five GCSEs at grades A-C, including English and Mathematics. • Good communication and personal skills when dealing with children, young people, other professionals and your colleagues whilst on work placement and in College. • An ability to manage your time effectively and meet deadlines. • A real commitment to the subject. • To be physically and mentally fit to work with children, young people and their families.
You will be assessed through written assignments and your practical skills in the workplace. The programme offers a good balance between practical and theoretical work.
You may use the Extended Diploma as a stepping stone to Higher Education, going on to study a B.A. in Early Childhood Studies, a B.Ed. in Early Years or Primary School Teaching or a degree in Paediatric Nursing or Social Policy. Other students have progressed into employment in a variety of roles such as practitioners in private day nurseries, nursery schools, primary schools or crèches. Some find employment as support workers for children with special needs, children representatives for holiday companies or nannies in private homes.
