Course description

Why study Spanish? What do these famous people all have in common? Gary Lineker David Beckham, Gwyneth Paltrow, Natalie Portman, Will Smith and hundreds of other “cool” people. Yes, they all speak Spanish fluently! Spanish is spoken throughout the world by 400 million people as their native language. It is the third language by total speakers behind Chinese Mandarin and English.

Course content

  • Unit 1: Listening, Reading and Writing – language based exam
  • Unit 2: Writing exam on cultural topics studied (film / literature)
  • Unit 3: oral exam

Topics studied at A level: aspects of Spanish speaking society: current trends, such as the impact of the internet on society; artistic culture in the Spanish speaking world, including work on Spanish cinema, music and literature as well as political life in France. Each theme is dealt with in considerable depth.  The course thus develops problem-solving skills and the student’s ability to understand and respond to complex issues.  


Entry requirements

  • 5 GCSE’s A*-C
  • GCSE B grade in Spanish


You will be tested by final examinations in speaking, listening, reading and writing.  You would be expected to practise your language skills away from lessons, including with the Foreign Language Assistant

This course will prepare you for an Undergraduate degree course at University.
