Creative Media Production BTEC at Ormiston Bushfield Academy
The BTEC Level 3 in Creative Media Production is a vocational courses designed for people who plan to progress to higher education and a career in any aspect of media, marketing or public relations.
However, the skills you develop are not exclusively applicable to working within the Media sector. The courses develop a wide range of employability and creative skills: branding and marketing, time-management, problem-solving, interpersonal skills, organising skills, team-work skills, skills in presentation, and leadership. They also develop intellectual and creative skills which are invaluable for a wide range of university courses and professions.
- BTEC Level 3 subsidiary diploma in Creative Media Production - Television and Film (360 Guided Learning Hours)
- BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Creative Media Production (720 Guided Learning Hours)
The Diploma is equivalent to two A Levels and the subsidiary diploma to one A Level.
One year (Extended Certificate) & two years (Diploma).
Much of the work you do will revolve around moving image production. You will produce short documentaries, music videos, short films and live tv shows.
In addition, you will have the opportunity to develop an extended skill set in other areas of the media including magazine production and web design.
You will learn how to create products with specific target audiences in mind, understand the importance of in-depth research and planning.
As this is a vocational course, we strive to offer students the valuable experience of working in real-life situations outside of the classroom. This involves real clients providing students with a working brief. The client varies each year from local businesses to bands/performers who require a music video and publicity material.
Students should expect the Creative Media Production course to range from 9 to 12 lessons each week, thus occupying a significant number of your weeks lessons.
GCSE A* to C Grade in English Language
The subsidiary diploma consists of 7 modules including: Pre-production techniques, Communication skills and Research techniques, Single camera techniques, factual programme production, Advertisement production for television and music video production.
The full diploma features an additional 6 units. Students who progress to the diploma will gain additional skills in areas such as: Understanding the creative media sector, photography, print production, web design, multi-camera techniques and working to a brief.
On passing any unit you have covered – whether on the subsidiary diploma or the Diploma – you will gain a Pass, a Merit, or a Distinction in that unit. Your final grade – Pass, Merit or Distinction – will depend on your performance in all the units you have covered.
Students have progressed to higher education and a career in any aspect of media, marketing or public relations.
