Sociology is the study of human society and involves questioning many aspects of life that we take for granted.

You do not have to have studied Sociology before, but must be prepared to read and be open-minded.

Course content

You will study a variety of areas, including:

  • The Family
  • Education
  • Crime and Deviance
  • Research Methods
  • Beliefs in Society

In studying these topics you will also examine:

  • The Influence of the Media
  • The Impact of Gender, Social Class and Ethnicity
  • Crime and Deviance

Standard 'A' Level entry requirements apply.

Future opportunities

On successful completion, you may go on to a Degree in Sociology, Criminology, Journalism, Social Science or Humanities. This subject is especially useful if you are considering a career in Teaching (though you will need to ensure that you also study a National Curriculum subject).
