Module 1 Title
AS 961 The Origins of the English Civil War

Students examine key events in the reign of Kings James I and Charles I, and how that led to the outbreak of civil conflict in 1642.

Module 2 Title AS 964 European and World History Enquires
The USA and the Cold War in Asia, 1945-1975

Students will examine the basis of US involvement in Asia after 1945 and the changing nature of its policy to contain communism in China, Korea and Vietnam. The focus of the enquiry AS paper is the critical use of evidence in investigating historical questions.

Module 3 Title
A2 965 Oliver Cromwell – Coursework module

A source-based investigation into the way Cromwell’s actions and his place in history have been constantly re-interpreted over time.

Module 4 Title A2 966 Historical Themes 1793-1996
Russia and its Rulers 1855-1964

A synoptic study of Russia through the ages from the Tsars to the Dictators. Students will study Russia in depth and breadth covering approximately 100 years. Students will identify patterns of change and continuity over time.

Entry requirements

Must achieve at least a grade B at GCSE History; a grade B in English is also preferred.

Assessment

25% - Based on two assignments related to Unit 3 – Oliver Cromwell.
