Music Performance BTEC Extended Diploma Level 3. at Hugh Baird College
This course focuses on developing your music practice, performance and technology skills. You will be expected to be able to read and write music at a basic level, and will have the opportunity to write and perform your work regularly and work in our live sound and recording studios.
During the course you will develop your technical skills using Apple Mac computers with Logic Pro and Sibelius music software. You will take part in performances both inside and outside of the College, for invited audiences.
The programme also includes studying Maths and English towards GCSE grade A-C if you do not already have these grades.

You will also complete additional specialist units which will allow you to study particular areas in more depth. These include:
- Contemporary songwriting techniques
- Composing music
- Live music event
- Music software skills
In order to qualify for this course, you will need:
- 4 GCSEs at grade A*-C including Music and/or demonstrate a vocal/instrument skill
- Relevant Level 2 qualification at Merit or above and be working towards GCSE Maths and English at grade A*- C
Entry to all courses are subject to a successful interview, a satisfactory reference from your school or employer and evidence that you will be a committed student.

If you are aged 16-19, this qualification will form a substantial part of your study programme. The study programme has been designed to ensure that young people are fully equipped and ready to move on to the world of work or higher level courses. In addition to your main qualification, will you also get the opportunity to undertake relevant and CV bolstering work experience out in your chosen industry. You will also be supported through maths and English qualifications.
