Stage One – 8 Week Intensive Programme at North Lindsey College

Throughout the 8 week period students will be put through an intensive training programme, with assessments and examinations throughout the course which will provide them with the skills and knowledge to commence on to an apprenticeship placement with an employer, entering the workplace with skills enabling them to immediately contribute to the organisation.


Stage Two – 4 Week Work Placement Just Car Clinics

A practical 4 week work placement at a local Just Car Clinic branch to put into practice all of the skills and knowledge that has been gained throughout the intensive 8 week programme. All students on work placement with Just Car Clinics will be put under the guidance and supervision of an experienced panel technician, who has also undergone specialist mentor training so that they can provide the very best support for the student in their care.

Course content

Modules include:
- Health & Safety practices in vehicle maintenance
- Skills in materials, fabrication, tools and measuring devices
- Forming and joining for vehicle body repair
- Vehicle body repair materials
- Basic vehicle body repairs
- Moving loads and vehicle jacking
- Introduction to low carbon technologies in the automotive industry
- Light vehicle construction
- Skills in removing and fitting motor mechanical, electrical and trim (MET) components
- Knowledge in removing and fitting motor mechanical, electrical and trim (MET) components
- Skills in removing non-permanently fixed motor vehicle body panels
- Skills in carrying out minor motor vehicle exterior body panel repairs
- Skills in removing and fitting trim components
- Knowledge of removing and fitting trim components

Entry requirements

Students interested in this course should apply on line. There will be an assessment day consisting of students carrying out a variety of vehicle related tasks.

Assessment

Assessment methods vary for the different modules, but include:
- Combination assessments (task based)
- Practical assessments
- Written assessments
- On-line tests

Future opportunities

Life after the Academy

Just Car Clinics are investing heavily into the academy to bring new skills and generations into their network. There will be, at the end of the 12 week programme, employment opportunities in the shape of full time apprenticeships, of which successful candidates would be expected to progress onto Advanced Levels over a 3 year period. For the students who excel at the academy and are offered full time apprenticeship placements they will become full time employees of Just Car Clinics and enjoy all of the benefits that this brings.
