Hairdressing Level 2 NVQ Diploma at Redbridge College

Course description

Get qualified to junior stylist level with this practical intermediate course. You’ll learn the theory and techniques used to create stunning and fashionable hairstyles, gaining experience and achieving a NVQ Level 2 qualification.

Course content

Units you will study include:

  • Make sure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety
  • Give clients a positive impression of yourself and your organisation
  • Advise and consult with clients
  • Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
  • Change hair colour
  • Style and finish hair
  • Set and dress hair
  • Cut hair using basic techniques
  • Attach hair to enhance a style
  • Fulfil salon reception duties.

Functional skills: 16-18: You will also study English and maths to support your main course. 19+: You may study one of the functional skills if appropriate.

Entry requirements

You will need to have achieved three GCSEs at Grade D or above including maths and/or English.

Assessment

You'll be taught by our highly skilled team of professional Hairdressing staff in specialist classrooms at our Ilford Skills Academy, as well as the college's brand new Urban Oasis salons (at The Exchange Ilford). Practical assessments take place throughout the year on paying clients. During the course you will produce a portfolio of evidence containing practical and theory work.

Future opportunities

On successful completion of this course you will be qualified to progress in to a job in the industry as a junior stylist. You will also have the option to further enhance your skills and knowledge by progressing to a NVQ Level 3 Hairdressing qualification at Redbridge College.
