English Literature AS/A-Level at Shire Oak Academy
English Literature is a four unit course. Two studied in Year 12 and the final two in Year 13.
At AS level there are two examined components- both are equally weighted and include Drama and Poetry Pre 1900 and Comparative and Contextual Study.
At A level candidates will complete a coursework folder and sit a further exam. Some of the writers studied during the course include: William Shakespeare, John Webster, Bram Stoker, Wilfred Owen, Ian McEwan and Angela Carter.
Preferably, students should achieve a grade B or above in both English Literature and English Language at GCSE. We do make exceptions and discussions can be held with Mrs Baker or Mrs Sutton.
English Literature offers an excellent route towards a number of careers, including law, journalism,the wider world of media, public relations, politics, teaching, the public sector, industry and commerce.
