Graphics (Design & Technology) AS/A2 at Onslow St Audrey`s School

Course description

This is a creative and practical subject taking
in such areas as architecture, interior design,
advertising, packaging, consumer products and vehicle design.

You will study a wide range of products, materials and
processes including graphic and constructional materials
which will give you the knowledge and understanding to be an effective designer. You will learn how to
present your designs using 2D and 3D techniques. This will include
the use of traditional graphic materials and computer aided design.
Models are constructed using a range of materials and techniques
including CNC manufacture and specialist materials such as
Styrofoam and foam board.
You will produce a portfolio of work in Year 12 and one in
Year 13 that will include both design work and manufactured
concept models. These portfolios form 50% of your grade and will
demonstrate your creativity and flair when investigating, designing
and making product(s). The course has been designed to be as
flexible as possible, offering you a wide range of valid approaches in
producing your portfolio as professionally as possible.
You will also study the theory behind a range of topics, such
as materials and components, manufacturing management and
processes, environmental issues, sustainability of design and design
history and culture. This will be assessed both in your coursework
and a written exam.
Please note: Students cannot opt to study Graphics (D&T) and
Resistant Materials (D&T) AS or A2 as a combination.

Entry requirements

A*-C GCSE in D&T or BTEC 1st Pass*APS: 40 or above
