Skills in Maths and English will support your apprenticeship programme, assisting you with assignment writing, research, job applications, presentations, managing your own finances and interpretation of data, to mention just a few. They will also help you in the future. Most employers are looking for ability in these areas and the majority of university courses require you to have Maths and English GCSEs at A*-C. This is why the development of Maths and English is so important, whatever your field of study.y

Entry requirements

You will be required to complete a skills check and attend an interview with a tutor. You will also need literacy and numeracy qualifications at Level 1, but if you do not have the relevant level of qualifications, we can assess your current level of literacy and numeracy.
You must be employed in a salon from an approved salon-based employer.

Assessment will be continuous through oral and written tests, assignments and practical work.  Practical assessment will take place on real clients in College and an assessor will visit you in the salon to monitor your progress.  Certification will be accredited on completion of your portfolio of evidence and achievement of Functional Skills.
