Applied ICT AS/A2 at Christ's College Guildford
Applied ICT is a modern, user focused course which aims to provide students with a broad experience of different aspects of the information age in which we live. The majority of the course is assessed through the use of e-portfolios which students prepare by investigating a particular aspect of the use of information technology. At AS level the emphasis is on an understanding of the world in which we live, while at A2, students will start to learn project management skills to deliver useful applications based around multimedia and database technology.
Students will use a range of software applications including the Adobe suite of software such as Flash, Fireworks, Soundbooth and Dreamweaver as well as learning to use advanced skills in Microsoft packages such as Excel and Access.
You will do 6 units over the two years.
1 The Information Age
2 The Digital Economy
3 The Knowledge Worker
4 Using Database Software
5 Managing ICT Projects
6 Using Multimedia Software
5 GCSEs at grades A*-C.
Four units are assessed by e-portfolio whilst units 3 and 4 are assessed by a practical examination.
You could take this course to complement other Advanced level courses, which could lead onto higher education, in areas of Information and Communication Technology or more general courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to ICT such as a Web Designer, IT Technician or Software Programmer.
