Drama and Theatre Studies A Level at City of Westminster College

Course description

Unit 1: Exploration of Drama and Theatre - Practical and theoretical exploration of two contrasting play texts (‘In the Blood’ & 'Our Country’s Good'). Study of one theatre practitioner. Exploration Notes of 3000 words based on your response to practical work on the texts (1500 words on each text). A Live Theatre Evaluation of 1000 words.

Unit 2: Theatre Text in Performance (externally assessed) - Learn, stage and perform a monologue to an examiner. Write a 500 word concept for your monologue. Perform in a play directed by your lecturer to a public audience

Entry requirements

All A-level candidates must have a minimum of Six GCSEs – and all candidates must have GCSE English and Maths at C or above.

Assessment

Unit 1 is assessed via a 4000 word piece of coursework which includes a 1000 word live theatre evaluation and 3000 words research and reflection on practical activities completed during the exploration of two texts. You are also assessed on your contribution in workshops. Unit 2 is assessed by a visiting examiner of your performance in a play directed by your teacher, performance of a monologue and a 500 word written concept.
