Philosophy & Ethics at All Saints RC Comprehensive School

Course description

You will consider the impact of scientifi c theories on accepted Christian beliefs, e.g. does Darwin’s theory of evolution discredit the Biblical view of creation? Are miracles possible in light of current understanding of the laws of nature? You will discuss ethical questions such as “How do people decide what is right and wrong?”, “Can there be any certainty?”, What do we mean when we use the word: Good?”. Practical ethics encourages you to follow the rapidly changing fi eld of medical ethics and the issues facing the environment in the world today. You will identify and analyse possible responses, including your own.

Year 1

You will study 2 modules:

• Module 1: Philosophy of Religion

• Module 2: Religious Ethics

Year 2

You will study 2 modules:

• Module 1: Philosophy of Religion

• Module 2: Religious Ethics

Entry requirements

Students enrolling on this course require a minimum of 5 A*-C grades at GCSE with a grade B or above in Religious Studies.
