Why study ICT?

Karen Price, Chief Executive Officer of E-Skills UK. Computers are transforming the way in which we learn, communicate, do business, enjoy our leisure and live our everyday lives. Whatever career you pursue in the future, a knowledge of computer skills and concepts is likely to be beneficial or even essential. Through the A level ICT course you will gain a broad knowledge of ICT skills as well as considering how ICT affects people’s lives. This course therefore considers the social aspects of ICT as well as developing your ICT capability.

What does the course involve?

AS Unit 1 – INFO1 Practical Problem Solving: in the Digital World 1 hour 30 minutes examination

Section A: short answer questions

Section B: structured questions

Unit 2 – INFO2 Living in the Digital World: 1 hour 30 minutes examination

Section A: short answer questions

Section B: structured questions

A2 Unit 3 – INFO3 The Use of ICT in the Digital World: 2 hour examination

Section A: structured questions based on pre-release material

Section B: questions requiring extended answers

Unit 4 – INFO4 Coursework: Practical Issues Involved in the Use of ICT in the Digital World

Coursework project report, marked by centre and moderated by AQA Students complete a project involving the production of an ICT-related system over an extended period of time.

Progression and Career Opportunities:

Information and Communications Technology skills are very valuable in the job market place. As an ICT specialist you could be involved in business, finance, manufacturing or the media. In addition, courses are available covering a wide range of subjects such as IT, Computing and Business IT, Information Systems, Software Engineering and Multimedia Technology.
